Although most juicers are designed to tackle a wide variety of ingredients, tough ingredients like ginger can be really hard to get a good extraction from.
For this reason, you have to pay a little more attention to the fine details of each juicer, and make sure the one’s you’ve shortlisted are up to the challenge.
What do I think is the best juicer for ginger right now though?
I’ve shortlisted four juicers for my review process, and you’ll find everything you need to choose the right appliance for you right here in this article.

The Benefits Of Ginger Juice
Chances are you won’t be buying a juicer for ginger alone (unless you’re really, really into it.)
The good news is that ginger is quite a tough ingredient to juice, which means that any juicer capable of tackling this tricky stuff will be up to many other jobs as well.
People like to juice ginger for different reasons, but here are some of the most common:
As A Coffee Replacement
If you’re looking to kick the caffeine habit first thing in the morning, a shot of ginger is a great alternative.
You get the same energy boost as your normal cup of joe, without the crash that often follows on from coffee.
If you’re more slumped than super-charged after your morning espresso, it’s an excellent alternative.
For A Nutrient Boost
A shot of ginger contains plenty of goodness which we all need to keep our bodies ticking over.
According to WebMD’s comprehensive article on the subject, ginger is good for helping with the following issues:
- Aiding digestion
- Treating an upset stomach naturally
- Period pain
- Headaches
- Muscle and joint pain
- Arthritis
So, you may well find that an extra dose of ginger in your diet alleviates some of these problems, even if it doesn’t exactly cure them altogether.

If you’re in a rush, you can use that quick summary to get a closer look at what you need.
In the next section, I’m going to review all four of these ginger juicers in greater depth.
Omega J8006HDS Slow Speed Masticating Juicer
Omega’s J8006HDS frequently comes out on top in my pick of the best juicers for all kinds of different ingredients.
So it is when it comes to juicing ginger.
- Cold Press Slow Juicer: This juice maker machine operates at a slow 80 RPM to minimize heat buildup and oxidation, promoting...
- Versatile Kitchen Tool: Turn nuts into nut butter, extrude pasta, grind coffee and spices, mince herbs and garlic, make baby food...

Omega’s machine works at a slow and steady pace thanks to its 80 RPM motor power. This not only gets you the maximum possible amount of juice from your groceries, but also dramatically reduces the heat and oxygen introduced during the extraction process.
That means you get a more nutrient-rich ginger shot, and it’ll store longer in the refrigerator as well. That’s useful when you want to make a bigger batch at the weekend and then store it for later.
The juice yield is impressive, with a very dry pulp remaining in the ejection chamber. Ejection happens automatically as well, which means you can keep feeding produce in without having to pause.
The J8006HDS also makes light work of some of the other toughest ingredients in the kitchen, including wheatgrass and leafy greens like kale, cabbage, spinach.
As well as your ginger shots, you can also use the J8006HDS to make very high yield juices from soft fruits and vegetables. Just tweak the end cap to suit the produce at hand, and you’ll get a really high yield.
Although designed as a juicer first and foremost, you can also use the J8006HDS to extrude pasta, grind coffee, make nut butter, prepare baby food, and complete any number of soft produce tasks.
Top all that off with Omega’s industry-leading 15 Year Warranty, and it’s a very easy recommendation to make for juicing ginger and just about anything else.
- Juicer Type: Masticating
- Dimensions: 6.5″ (D) x 14.5” (H) x 15.5” (W)
- Weight: 13 pounds
- Feed Chute Width: 1.5 inches
- Operating Speed: 80 RPM, Single Auger
- Position: Horizontal
- Warranty: 15 Years
Pros
- Produces fantastic ginger shots and gets a great yield from a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
- Great for making nut butter, baby food, purees & frozen desserts. Also grinds coffee and minces herbs.
- Automatic pulp ejection function minimizes downtime when you’re working with larger batches.
- A great balance between performance, versatility and price.
- The best warranty in my shortlist at 15 years full protection.
Cons
- The feeding chute is a little on the narrow side at 1.5 inches. You’ll likely need to do a little prep work, whatever ingredient you’re working with.
- Screen requires a little mid-session cleaning when making larger batches of juice.
- Will shut down to prevent over-heating when making a large batch from particularly tough ingredients.
- Overall build quality is excellent, but some smaller plastic parts are fragile. Handle with care!
Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer
I’ve waxed lyrical about Aicok’s slow masticating juicer elsewhere on Viva Flavor, and with good reason.
In terms of bang for your buck, Aicok’s machine is one of the best performing juicers on the market. It’s simple to use too, so it’s also a very good option for beginners.
No products found.
This juicer makes use of a specially designed multi-segment spiral system auger. This slowly grinds through the produce to open it all up and get a really impressive juice yield.
Like the Omega juicer I just reviewed, the Aicok juicer uses a slow 80 RPM motor, which again helps to keep heat buildup and oxygen out of your juice.
It also automatically separates the juice and the pulp, so you don’t have to waste too much time filtering out the finished drink.
If you’ve not got a lot of juicing experience under your belt, I think the Aicok is great for beginners as well as the budget-conscious.
Everything comes apart very easily for cleaning, and all of the removeable parts are dishwasher safe too. Juicing can be a messy business, so it’s always nice to be able to throw the muckiest bits into the dishwasher.
Although it’s a low-cost juicer machine, everything feels quite durable. There is quite a lot of plastic in the build though, so it may stand out on your countertop for the wrong reasons!
It’s not going to last as long as an Omega either, but I’m impressed that Aicok backs their budget juicer with a 3 year warranty.
You’ll be lucky to get more than a year’s support on the average entry-level appliance, and I think the reputation of this budget juicer is well-deserved.
- Juicer Type: Masticating
- Dimensions: 8.9” (D) x 17.1” (H) x 13.1” (W)
- Weight: 8.25 pounds
- Feed Chute: 3 inches
- Operating Speed: 80 RPM
- Position: Horizontal
- Warranty: 3 Years
Pros
- A fantastic ginger juice extractor at this price point. Great value all round.
- Beginner-friendly, as well as budget-friendly.
- Auger spiral system really chews through your produce to get an impressive yield.
- A surprisingly generous 3 year warranty for a machine at this end of the market.
- Many of the parts are dishwasher safe, making clean up very easy.
Cons
- Juice container has no grips on the bottom, which can cause it to slide around a little on the countertop.
- It’s a budget machine, and so is prone to overheating if you demand too much of it!
- The screen definitely benefits from some elbow grease when cleaning up.
- Replacement parts are hard to source, so be gentle with it.
- Lots of BPA free plastic in the build. Not the most durable juicer on the market as a result, but I think that goes with the budget territory.
Tribest GSE-5000 Greenstar Elite
An Omega juicer is probably as high-end as anyone really needs in their kitchen. If you want nothing but the very best though, Tribest produces some of the most powerful juicers on the market.
Part of the appeal of the Tribest 5000 series comes from the very particular design of the auger system.

There are two such augers in the machine, each of which is packed with teeth-like engineering finishes. This helps them literally chew through very, very tough ingredients including that hard and fibrous ginger root.
The end result is an exceptionally high juice yield, delivered with minimal heat and oxygen.
Like the Omega juicer I reviewed at the start of this section, you also get a number of accessories out of the box.
These can be used for making things like nut butter, frozen desserts, sorbets and sauces. It’s about as close as you can get to having an integrated food processor in a juicer.
Very few horizontal juicers look exactly slick on the countertop, but if looks matter to you then the Tribest 5000 is about as good as things get.
It’s also very easy to take apart for cleaning, which is always useful given how gunky these things get in pretty short order!
Tribest is another company that puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to build quality. With this in mind, you get 12 years full warranty for domestic use. That’s not quite as much as Omega’s 15 year support, but not far off it either.
In summary, then, the Tribest 5000 is the ultimate juicer for ginger and other tough ingredients. That’s assuming you can justify the high price of entry, which is the only thing that stops this juicer from taking my top spot.
- Juicer Type: Masticating
- Dimensions: 6.8” (D) x 12.4” (H) x 18.6” (W)
- Weight: 17.4 pounds
- Feed Chute: 1.5 inches
- Operating Speed: 110 RPM
- Position: Horizontal
- Warranty: 12 Years (Domestic Use)
Pros
- Some of the best juicing technology in the business, making it great for ginger juice and anything else you want to work with.
- 12 Year warranty provides peace of mind for your investment.
- Like the Omega, the Tribest machine is capable of tackling many tasks that you’d normally throw at your food processor.
- Comes with plenty of attachments and a cleaning brush to help you keep it in good working order.
Cons
- A narrow feeding chute means some prep work will be required.
- This a complex juicer and so it’s trickier to clean than the others I’ve reviewed. The mesh screen in particular needs a good scrubbing.
- More stainless steel parts would have been nice given the higher price point.
- Tricky to put back together after you’ve stripped it all down for a good clean out.
- A heavy machine like this demands a permanent home on the countertop.
Breville BJS700SIL Big Squeeze Slow Juicer
I wanted to wrap these reviews up by taking a closer look at a Breville juicer. This is an incredibly popular kitchenware brand, albeit with a focus on centrifugal juicers.
Because of their operating speed, these aren’t great for extracting ginger juice, but the BJS700SIL is the best of its slow machines, in my opinion.
- Large 3-inch (81mm) Feed Chute.
- Ultra-Quiet 240 Watt Motor
- Powerful low speed extraction method with minimal heat transfer makes this machine ultra-quiet while operating.
- Smart Cap: Create various mixed juices, Stops dripping, Create various mixed juices
- Conveniently easy for self-rinse; Stainless Steel Mesh Filter
It’s also quite an interesting option if you’ve more vertical than horizontal space to play with in your kitchen. This is a common problem with the majority of masticating juicers, which typically take on a horizontal design.
The Big Squeeze does a particularly good job at processing tough fruits and vegetables, slowly crushing and squeezing the contents into an impressive amount of juice.
Handily, you also get a little pre-mixing spout on the juicing bowl, which helps add a little extra texture to suit your taste.
There are two separate feeding chutes here, each of which is designed for a different type of ingredient.
The first is smaller, and so is best used for things like leafy greens. The second is three inches wide, which makes it easy for adding larger – even whole – ingredients.
It’s pretty easy to get things like small apples into the chute, which cuts down on prep time significantly.
It’s also one of the quietest juicer machines I’ve reviewed as well.
Slow juicers are quieter than centrifugal juicers by design, but even so I think this is a good option if keeping a quiet household is of particular importance to you.
Overall, I think the Omega and the Tribest juicers perform better than the Breville Slow Squeeze.
With that said, it’s a perfectly good option if you just can’t find the room for either of those other two!
- Juicer Type: Masticating
- Dimensions:13.4” (D) x 19.0” (H) x 11.8 (W)
- Weight: 12 pounds
- Feed Chute: Dual / 3 Inches max
- Operating Speed: Unknown
- Position: Vertical
- Warranty: 10 Years
Pros
- Vertical design provides another option for space-starved home juicers.
- Dual feeding chute makes working with different ingredient types very easy.
- Mixing spout helps you achieve just the right consistency.
- Extremely dry pulp once the juicing’s finished.
- Easy to assemble.
Cons
- Can get clogged up quite quickly, so you’ll need to be patient with the produce feed.
- Sometimes struggles to keep all the pulp out of the drink.
- Quite tricky to take apart as everything locks up so tightly.
- Removeable parts are not dishwasher safe.
The Final Verdict
What’s the best ginger juicer for your own kitchen, then?
In terms of power, performance and price it’s very easy to recommend the Omega J8006HDS as my top overall pick. Not only does it get great juice from ginger, it tackles other ingredients perfectly, and doubles up as a handy food processor too.
If you’re after a budget ginger juicer, then there’s really only one machine in town. The Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer provides an awful lot of bang for your buck. It’s a great choice for beginners as well.
If you only want the very best, then the Tribest Green Star Elite is the best premium juicer I’ve reviewed. It’s got some very clever auger tech that chews through produce like nothing else on the market.
You’ll need to decide whether that extra tech is worth the extra cost compared to the Omega J8006HDS. I don’t think it’s necessary myself, but real power users may feel differently.
About Buying A Ginger Juicer
There are a few things that you need to consider when comparing the best juicers for ginger.
In this next section I’m going to cover off some of the most important buying considerations.
These are the criteria I’ve used myself for reviewing the four appliances in this article. Keep them in mind if you want to carry on with your own product comparisons.
The Type Of Juicer
I’ll keep things as simple as possible here.
There are, fundamentally, two different types of juicing appliances on the market today: centrifugal and masticating juicers.
Centrifugal Juicers
Centrifugal juicers work at exceptionally high speeds to get the extraction finished as quickly as possible.
That’s great for convenience (and they’re typically inexpensive appliances too), but they generate a great deal of heat while they’re processing the ingredients.
They also add a lot of oxygen to the final drink.
Both these things are far from ideal when you’re juicing ginger in particular.
If you’re going about this to get the maximum possible nutritional value out of your ginger, both heat and oxygen will partially destroy them.
It’s not ideal if you’re trying to get serious about this.
For that reason, I recommend buying a masticating juicer* instead
(* You might also see these called cold press juicers. The terms are used pretty interchangeably so don’t worry too much about this.)
Masticating Juicers
Anyone who’s serious about their juicing knows that buying a masticating juicer is a much better idea all-round.
These juicers operate at a much slower speed, and very slowly munch their way through your fruits and vegetables in order to create the juice.
It’s more of a squeeze than a high-speed blitz, and you get a lot more juice from your groceries as a result.
Because a masticating juicer operates more slowly, it also generates less heat and oxygen. This helps to preserve the nutritional value of your produce.
The flip side?
They’re not only a lot slower, they also require a little more hands-on involvement on your part.
When it comes to juicing ginger in particular though, I really do think it’s worth the extra effort. It’s a bit of a false economy to go for a centrifugal appliance when you’re working with this stuff.
Think About The Size Of The Feed Chute
This is less of a problem when you’re making ginger juice, but when you’re working with other produce you’ll want a reasonably wide feed chute.
The reason?
In very general terms, the wider the feed chute is, the less time you’ll have to spend chopping up your fruit and veg so they fit inside the thing.
If you want to minimize prep time as much as possible, look for a juicer that has a feed chute of around three inches. That’s often enough to fit small fruits whole, without any cutting required at all!
How Much Countertop Space Do You Have?
With the exception of the taller Breville BJS700SIL that I reviewed in this guide, masticating juicers typically take up a lot of space on your countertop.
You also need to allow for a little bit of extra room around all sides. This will help you take the juicer apart for cleaning, and also make it easy to add more fruits and vegetables.
Don’t ignore the weight of the appliance either. If you’re really short on countertop space, you might want to be able to take it in and out of storage easily.
I’ve included the size and weight of all four machines in this buying guide, so do measure up carefully before making your final selection!
Is Clean Up Going To Be A Huge Chore?
Of all the kitchen appliance types out there, juicers can be some of the fiddliest to clean up.
There’s not an awful lot you can do about this really. It just goes with the territory in this side of kitchen life.
With that said, I strongly encourage you to look for a ginger juice extractor with parts that are marked as dishwasher safe.
You may still have to take a gentle brush to the juicing screen, but trust me when I say this will make a huge difference.
More importantly, I think you’ll find yourself using the thing more. Good habits are always easier to keep when you can clean up after yourself easily.
You won’t be able to put the main power base in there, of course, but do get into the habit of giving it a wipe down with a damp cloth after each use.
Juicing is often a messy business, and your juicer will last longer if you make a small, consistent effort to prevent gunk building up around the buttons.
Can You Assemble & Disassemble It Without Going Crazy?
This follows on from the cleaning section in many ways.
It doesn’t really matter how fiddly your juicer is to set up initially, but you do need to be able to take it apart for cleaning easily, and then put it back together again
If you’re the kind of person who takes really good care of their appliances, you’ll be doing this every time you juice.
If you’re only an occasional juicer and you’re short on countertop real estate, you might need to take it apart for storage too.
Read the reviews carefully and understand the complexity of putting your chosen ginger juicer together.
How Much Power Is Enough, Really?
Tough ingredients will put more strain on the juicer motor than softer ingredients.
Ginger in particular is quite a tough thing to break down into a decent shot of juice.
For that reason, I’d say more is generally better in this regard. If you’re buying a masticating juicer, however, don’t confuse speed with power.
It still needs to operate at a slow speed for optimal extraction, but a tougher ingredient puts up more resistance, which causes the motor to work harder.
This is one of those areas where it pays to buy from one of the big brands like Omega, who specialize in juicing and understand how much pressure you need to put these things under.
The Longer The Warranty, The Better
This follows on quite neatly from the last section.
It’s a fact of life that the harder a juicer motor has to work, the shorter its lifespan will be – if it’s not built to withstand those pressures, that is.
The good news is that the bigger juicing brands offer some of the most impressive warranties you’ll find on any kind of kitchenware
Omega is an obvious name to reference here, as they offer up to 15 years warranty support on their juicers. I think that often justifies the higher cost by itself, especially if you’re a daily user.
Just keep a close eye on the small print here:
- What parts specifically are covered by the impressive warranty?
- Does it cover accidental damage, or just general wear and tear?
- Are there any restrictions about where you can use the juicer (ie domestic vs commercial)
A good warranty is only as good as the fine details, so check that you’ll be supported in your own specific circumstances.
What Kind Of A Racket Will Your Ginger Juicer Make?
If you’ve read this far then you’ll know I recommend a masticating juicer for making ginger shots.
The good news is that masticating juicers produce a low noise level. They operate slowly by design, and so are unlikely to disturb your household very much.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t variation between different cold press appliances though.
Have a good dig through the details to see if the juicer you’ve got an eye on has a good or bad reputation for noise.
If you’re going down the centrifugal juicer route, then you have to accept that they’ll all make more noise than even the noisiest masticating juicer.
There’s a trade off though, because your centrifugal juicer will get the job done faster.
How To Budget For Your Ginger Shot Juicer
This is a really tricky one to work out, and everyone’s going to come to a different conclusion.
The main factors to consider here are:
- Experience. If you’re a super-dedicated juicing fanatic, you obviously owe it to yourself to invest in the best juicer you can afford. These typically come with warranties that more than justify the higher investment. You’ll realize the benefit of that support in the long run.
- Frequency of Use. If, on the other hand, you’re new to the world of juicing, it’s probably better to invest in a competent entry-level machine – they do exist! No one likes having to upgrade, but this will help you get your feet wet and find out if this is an area of kitchen life you’re likely to commit to for the long run.
It’s ultimately a balance between looking at where you are right now on your juicing journey, how long a more expensive machine will last under pressure, and the budget you have available at this moment in time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s wrap things up by answering some of the most commonly asked questions about using your juicer to make ginger shots:
Why Is Ginger Harder To Juice Than Fruits And Vegetables?
Ginger is a tough, gnarly root packed with fibrous material. That makes it much tougher to pull apart and get a decent shot of juice out of.
A strong motor is essential here. The ginger will put up quite a fight against the motor mechanism, and that motor needs to be able to push back to get the job done.
The good news?
Ginger is far more pleasant in shots than it is in straight drinks. Get a juicer with a good motor and you should have no trouble producing this stuff in small sizes.
Can I Make Ginger Without A Juicer?
While there are certain soft fruits and vegetables that you can manually squeeze, ginger is most definitely not one of them.
The problem here is that the moisture – your juice – is locked up within those dense fibers. You’ll only get a pitiful amount of juice if you work with this stuff by hand.
You really do need a dedicated appliance to get the job done properly.
Do I Need To Peel Ginger Before Juicing?
Not necessarily!
I have a tendency to prep produce this way by default, but it’s really not necessary.
Give the ginger a good scrub to get any dirt off it, then add it to the juicer.
The pulp will be separated during the juicing process, leaving the peel well away from your ginger shot.
How Long Does Ginger Juice Last?
Your ginger juicer can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
After that point, you’ll notice a definite decline in the quality of the drink.
In fact, I try to drink any juices I make within 24 hours of making them. I just feel the end result is more palatable the sooner you drink it.
Can Ginger Juice Be Frozen?
It’s fine to store ginger juice in the freezer for up to six months after preparing it.
As it’s designed to be consumed in small quantities, I find that an ice cube tray makes an excellent storage device.
Just pop your cubes out a day or so before you want to consume them, add them to a suitable container, and then let them thaw out in the refrigerator.
