Buying Guide
What should you look for when you’re shopping around for a new egg skillet?
I’ve put together a few pointers that will help you narrow down your best option from the shortlist I’ve created.
How Big Should An Egg Skillet Be?
This depends, of course, on how many people you’ll be cooking for. If it’s just for one, then I’d recommend buying an 8 inch skillet, just so you have room to work with.
If you’re cooking for more than one person, I’d recommend a 10 inch skillet as a minimum. You’ll find a 12 inch skillet easier to work with all-round though, and you’ll be able to do more than just cook eggs with it too.
What Shape Should An Egg Skillet Be?
Most skillets are round in shape, and provide plenty of versatility for eggs and other jobs.
You might consider getting a square shaped pan, however, as it can be easier to cleanly flip the food over with your spatula.
Alternatively, you can easily find square pans that have individual round “cups” built in. This makes it easier to cook everyone’s egg just how they want it, and in its own section.
There’s no real “right shape” here. Just look through the options and think about what’s going to work best for your own situation.
How Much Money Should You Spend On An Egg Skillet?
The simple answer here is that if you only intend to cook eggs on your new skillet, you don’t have to spend a lot of money at all.
The skillets I shortlisted for this guide are all affordable pieces of cookware, and are similarly priced.
It’s more important to decide on the most suitable design for your own kitchen and cooking needs!
Will The Egg Skillet Work On An Induction Cooktop?
Most of the egg skillets I’ve reviewed for this guide are compatible with induction cooktops.
If you only have access to an induction cooking surface though, this is obviously going to be the most important buying consideration.
Make sure you check the product listing carefully before committing to a purchase. Most manufacturers make a big deal out of induction compatibility, so it will always be highlighted.
Egg Skillet Reviews
Let’s move on to taking a closer look at the egg skillets I shortlisted for each category at the top of this article.
Lodge Cast Iron Skillet For Eggs
Lodge is a tried and tested skillet brand, and often earns a spot in my cookware reviews.
When it comes to cooking eggs in particular, there are two easy recommendations. The Lodge 10.25” skillet is perfect for cooking a handful of eggs, while the 3.5” version is just about good enough for a single serving.
- YOUR NEW GO-TO PAN: Lodge cast iron cookware is the perfect kitchen tool for beginners, home cooks and chefs. Cast iron can handle...
- SEASONED COOKWARE: Seasoning is simply oil baked into the iron, giving it a natural, easy-release finish and helps prevent your...

- FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it’s a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still...
Lodge’s cast iron skillets are supplied pre-seasoned, so you’re ready to get started right away. They retain heat extremely well, and spread that heat evenly for the perfectly cooked fried egg.
They’re versatile tools as well, and can be used on the stovetop, under the grill, or even on a campfire if you wanted to start your day in the great outdoors with a perfectly fried egg!
Finally, these things are built to last. Although they’re pretty inexpensive to add to your cookware collection, a Lodge skillet will last a lifetime if it’s cared for properly.
Carote 8 inch Nonstick Skillet Frying Pan
Carote isn’t quite as familiar a brand, but will be an interesting option for eco-conscious shoppers.
It features aluminum as the base material, which is then coated with a granite nonstick material that doesn’t feature any problematic chemicals. You can use it on all stove types, including induction tops.
- Eco-friendly Classic Granite – Non-stick Granite Material, PFOS,PFOA free, our cookware ensures your daily cooking is always...
- Easy To Clean – Just wipe it with a paper towel or rinse it with water, Less Co2 emission and Less water wasted.
- Suitable For All Stoves – Heats up quickly and evenly with extended bottom design. High magnetic conductive stainless steel base...

That non-stick coating also makes it easy to clean up, while the overall feel is sturdy and durable. It’s a cost-effective skillet, in other words, but one hat should prove unusually hard-wearing for the price.
There are actually a few sizing options to consider here, with 8, 9.5 and 10 inch versions. If you think this is the right brand for you, consider the 8 inch for a single egg, or the largest skillet for two.
Finally, I think the finish on the Carote egg skillet is likely to be quite divisive!
The speckling effect will either add a nice counterpoint to your existing cookware collection, or look jarringly out of place. It also features a wooden-effect Bakelite handle – comfortable to hold, but again quite striking.
There are cosmetic considerations here, in other words, and only you can decide how this will look in your own kitchen.
Gotham Steel Mini Egg and Omelet Pan
Gotham Steel is an increasingly popular skillet brand for home chefs, and I think this is the company’s best egg skillet.
Sizing options range from 5.5 inches, all the way up to 14 inches. There’s a lot of flexibility here.
- ULTRA NONSTICK – the nonstick cooking surface is coated three times and reinforced with diamonds to deliver the ultimate food...
- HEALTHY & 100% NON-TOXIC – the Gotham Steel coating is derived from minerals and reinforced with diamonds, making this frying...
- METAL UTENSIL SAFE – the coating of the pan is infused with diamonds, the strongest material on earth which makes it durable...
- EVEN HEAT DISTRIBUTION – aluminum composition ensures even heat distribution all around with no dead zones or hot spots
- EFFORTLESS CLEANUP, DISHWASHER SAFE– spend less time with cleanup! After all the cooking and prepping is done, place cookware in...
Gotham Steel has built its name on a patented non-stick cooking surface. This is triple-coated, and then reinforced with “diamonds” to add strength.
Food releases cleanly as a result, and it’s possible to avoid using any cooking oils whatsoever!
Like the Carote pan I’ve just highlighted, the Gotham Steel egg skillet is completely free of PFOA, PFOS, lead and cadmium.
If you’re looking for a really effective non-stick egg skillet, free of chemical interference, it’s very hard to go wrong here.
One thing I’ll mention is that Gotham Steel claims you can use metal utensils with this egg skillet. That may be the case, but I really would recommend investing in a good set of silicon or wooden utensils. instead.
Even the toughest non-stick coatings have a limited lifespan, and I see no good reason to risk reducing that lifespan with scratches and scrapes – we all have accidents in the kitchen, after all.
The Gotham Steel egg pan is compatible with all stovetops – including induction – and is even oven-safe up to a maximum temperature of 500F / 260C.
There won’t be many egg dishes you’ll want to oven bake for long, but it’s nice to have this flexibility for other meals!
Yarlung 4-Cup Fried Egg Frying Pan
If you’re cooking eggs in multiple portions, Yarlung makes the best of those 4-cup egg skillets you might have seen already.
These pans keep everything very neat and tidy, with cleanly separated cooking segments for when you’re working with individual portions.
- Yarlung Patent D948,920 Egg Frying Pan. Size: 13.5''L x 7''W x 0.8''H, 4 cups each 3.3''diameter, with anti-scalding bakelite...
- The frying pan features thick pot body design and a large capacity of 4 compartments, making your cooking easier and quicker with...

- Intelligent temperature control: Poached egg pan has fine shape bottom to achieve even heat conduction, low flame recommended when...
- The fried egg pan is used to make pancake, omelette, burger. Practical for most stoves, induction, gas stove and electric stove...
It’s quite a large skillet as a result (measuring some 14 x 7.5 inches), but if you’re cooking eggs for a household you’ll need a fairly large piece of cookware anyway.
It features a non-stick coating, which is essential when you’re trying to work with individual tray cups.
The whole unit is made of Maifan stone as well, which can take quite a beating. It also features a wood-effect handle, which stays cool to the touch and is pretty comfortable to hold.
You also get an oil brush out of the box, which you’ll definitely want to make use of!
It can be a little tricky to work with these individual portion pans, so anything that helps with food release is always very welcome.
GreenPan Mini Ceramic Square Egg Pan
GreenPan is another popular option for those of you who want to move away from chemically-coated non-stick cookware altogether.
This compact egg skillet features the company’s patented Thermolon coating. It’s durable, reacts well to different temperatures, and offers a healthy, ceramic non-stick cooking surface.
- Included components: 5" fry pan
- Given diameter is outer diameter
It also features a very different design approach to the other egg skillets I’ve highlighted so far.
The GreenPan has a square shape, which can accommodate fried eggs, frittatas, omelets and even French toast.
The 5 inch size means it’s only really useful for single servings, but as a versatile egg pan it’s very hard to go wrong here.
The one note of caution I’ll add is that the handle is angled in such a way that it may be uncomfortable to work with if you’ve got a small cooking area.
If that’s not a problem though, I think this is a really clever little addition to your arsenal of cooking tools!

Wrapping Up
All five of the egg skillets I’ve highlighted for this guide can be considered “best in class” for each design type.
Start by thinking about how many people you’ll be cooking for, consider the best shape, and think about the versatility you’ll need beyond just preparing egg dishes.
Once you’ve worked those out for your own kitchen, I think you’ll find it very easy to make a final choice from these five.
Happy cooking!
