You can read on for the individual reviews, but if you’re in a rush I reckon these are some of the best compact juicers on the market:

BEST OVERALL: Breville BJE200XL – If you want a compact machine that’s still powerful enough to tackle tough ingredients, I don’t think you can go wrong with the BJE200XL. Breville’s reputation is second to none, and this compact juicer more than delivers for that reputation.

BEST HIGH END: Kuvings B6000S – For pure quality it’s hard to go wrong with Kuvings’ juicer. It’s compact but very powerful, and produces some of the best juice you can make at home. It’s a slow juicer though, and built around a masticating juicer mechanism that slowly chews through the produce you feed it.

BEST CITRUS: Cuisinart CCJ-500 – If you only ever plan to juice citrus fruits, then Cuisinart’s compact juice extractor is both effective and affordable.

Want more detail? Let’s take a closer look at all five of these juicers.

Breville BJE200XL

Despite being a relatively inexpensive juicer, the Breville BJE200XL packs an impressive amount of power.

The 700 watt motor operates at 14,000 RPM to really chew through soft fruits and vegetables alike, and it’s quite a speedy machine as well.

  • Type: Centrifugal
  • Size: 7.4 x 10.4 x 12.7 inches
  • Weight: 9.68 Pounds

What’s really handy about this juicer is the extra wide feed system chute. At 3 inches wide it can accept large – even whole – pieces of fruits and vegetables, which means less prep time. This feeding tube is also situated at the top of the appliance to help keep the size of the machine down.

The cutting disc is made from tough stainless steel, with Breville claiming a design that’s capable of extracting up to 30% more juice from your fruits and vegetables. That’s a nice way of getting more from your food budget.

All centrifugal juicers create a certain amount of froth, but the juicing jug supplied with the BJE200XL has a built in froth separator to keep it out of your final drink.

Finally, all of the detachable parts on this juicer can be run through the dishwasher, making the BJE200XL nice and easy to care for.

Pros

  • A surprisingly quiet centrifugal juicer.
  • Fast and powerful for the cost involved. Handles all fruits and veggies easily.
  • Super-compact and suitable for very small kitchens.
  • Easy to clean.

Cons

  • Can struggle with leafy greens.
  • Juicer mesh requires a good scrub to get clean.
  • Pulp container fills entirely after around two standard servings.

Cuisinart CCJ-500

Cuisinart’s CCJ-500 is certainly small and light, which makes it a great option for those in the market for a compact juicer.

The catch? This juicer is only really good for tackling citrus juices.

  • Type: Citrus Juicer
  • Size: 6.7 x 7.88 x 12.25 inches
  • Weight: 4 Pounds

That makes it an excellent option if you’re only going to be making juices using this sort of ingredient, and it’s also one of the least expensive juicers I’ve reviewed for this guide.

In terms of operation, I really like the three different pulp settings that are provided with this appliance.

You can choose from a low, medium or high amount of pulp, which is great if you like a variety of textures, or have different tastes within your household.

An auto-reverse function juicer cone ensures you get every last drop of juice from your citrus fruits, while a “Final Spin” feature tackles the pulp one last time to get the most from it.

The chassis is constructed from hard-wearing stainless steel, while the elements that come into contact with food are made from BPA-free plastic. All the parts that can be removed from the machine are dishwasher-safe too.

The extra-long spout is a nice finishing touch as well. This prevents juice from dripping onto the countertop, and can be adjusted to accommodate a wide variety of glass sizes.

Pros

  • Impressive extraction technology.
  • Very compact and lightweight.
  • A budget-friendly juicing machine.
  • Stainless steel chassis and BPA-free plastic components.

Cons

  • Only suitable for citrus-based fruit juices, such as orange juice.
  • Pulp container can be tricky to clean out properly.
  • Not ideal for making larger juice batches.

Hamilton Beach 67608A

The main selling point of the Hamilton Beach Pro Juicer is its larger-than-average pulp bin.

You can make a surprisingly large batch of juice before you have to empty it, although that does increase the juicer’s overall size considerably. Check the dimensions carefully if you’re very short on countertop space.

That big bin is backed up by a large three inch feed tube as well. That means minimal prep, and a lot of your fresh produce will actually go in whole. Anything that won’t fit through only needs a little light chopping first.

The 800 watt motor does a good job of squeezing all the juice out of even tough whole fruits and vegetables. It’s a pretty versatile machine overall, but I just wish it wasn’t quite so bulky.

Taking the 67608A apart for cleaning is very simple though, and all removable parts can be put through the top rack of the dishwasher.

In terms of build quality, you get a 3 year warranty from Hamilton Beach. That’s better than some of the other juicers I’ve reviewed here, and gives a lot of buying confidence.

Pros

  • A powerful 800 watt motor.
  • Big pulp bin helps you make big batches without constant emptying.
  • 3 year warranty.
  • Wide feeding tube minimizes prep work.

Cons

  • Bigger than some of the other compact juicer appliances I’ve reviewed.
  • Quite a loud juicer.
  • Moves a little on the countertop.

Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus

The second Breville juicer I wanted to review for this guide is the JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus.

Although technically I consider this to be the better juicer – all things being equal – it’s much bigger than the BJE200XL. In the context of buying the best small juicer, then, it gets second place.

  • Type: Centrifugal
  • Size: 13.2 x 16.5 x 18.2 inches
  • Weight: 10 Pounds

If you can fit it on your countertop though you’ll enjoy the benefit of a more powerful 850 watt motor which powers the same stainless steel cutting disc.

In terms of pure speed and convenience, it’s a really impressive appliance. In fact, it only takes around five seconds to create an 8 ounce serving!

Two separate speed settings provide an ideal operating environment for either very soft fruits or tough vegetables.

There’s another wide feeding chute on this compact juicer, which really helps cut down on preparation time. You’ll easily get a whole apple in there, and anything large than that just needs to be roughly chopped first.

In terms of construction, the JE98XL Juice Fountain is made from high quality polymer and BPA-free plastic. All parts are dishwasher-safe, and you also get a cleaning brush to help clear out any stubborn gunk.

Pros

  • A fast, powerful compact juicer for creating juice servings in seconds.
  • High-quality, durable build.
  • Safety locking arm mechanisms prevent operation while the chambers are open.
  • Large capacity pulp collector.

Cons

  • A comparatively bulky juicing machine.
  • One of the more expensive juicers I’ve looked at for this guide.

Kuvings B6000S

The Kuvings B6000S is a great option if you want a really powerful, high-end compact juicer that produces incredible juices in its own time.

Masticating juicers are slower than their centrifugal counterparts, but they do a much better job of extracting every last drop of juice from the pulp.

As they work more slowly, they also introduce less oxygen and heat during the extraction process. That eliminates the foaminess of a centrifugal juicer, and means the juice has a much longer shelf life in your refrigerator.

As well as making outstanding juices, the B6000S also does a great job of making things like smoothies and baby food.

Kuvings is the brand you go to when you want the very best in juicing, and I think the B6000S is the best of the high end options here. That’s backed up with a 10 year warranty, so you can be pretty confident your investment will pay off.

Pros

  • Outstanding build quality.
  • Achieves maximum extraction from your fruits and vegetables.
  • A slow masticating juicer minimizes oxygen and heat for a better juice.
  • Very versatile – you can make more than just juice with this thing!

Cons

  • A slow juicer.
  • Heavier than many other juicing machines I’ve reviewed.

Buying The Best Small Juicer

There are plenty of options to choose from when you’re shopping around for the best small juicer.

The good news is this means there’s one just for you!

The five machines I’ve reviewed in this guide are all very good options in their own ways. If you want to do more research of your own though, here’s what you should be keeping an eye out for.

Centrifugal Vs Masticating vs Citrus

Broadly speaking there are three different kinds of home juicers on the market today. Here’s an overview of the pros and cons of each one.

  • Centrifugal Juicers: These spin at quite a high speed in order to separate the juice from the pulp. Although these machines are faster than masticating juicers, the process adds oxygen to the juice which reduces the shelf life of the finished product. It also aerates the juice, which creates a froth that some may find unappetizing. These are best if you want a good quality juice delivered at speed.
  • Masticating Juicers: These operate at a much lower speed than centrifugal juicers, which means you’ll have to wait longer for your juice. They’re best when it comes to efficiency though, crushing the ingredients into a pulp before squeezing that pulp in order to extract every last drop of juice. The slower operating speed means less heat and air is produced in the process, which means your juice will last longer in the refrigerator. Note, however, that these slow juicers will typically cost more money than a centrifugal equivalent.
  • Citrus Juicers: These are typically very simple machines and are only suitable for squeezing citrus fruit. They’re very basic, but are often much cheaper than the other two juicer types precisely because of this simplicity. The extraction process is very basic, with the fruit being pushed down and then rotated – a bit like the lemon juicer you likely have lying around in your kitchen!

Which type of juicer should you pick? It’s a bit of a balancing act really.

If you want to maximize your juice extraction, don’t mind waiting a little while, and can fit a bigger – more expensive – machine on your countertop, masticating juicers are ideal.

If you’re more concerned with convenience and appliance size, a centrifugal juicer will be a very welcome addition to your kitchen.

If you know you’re going to stick to citrus drinks – and citrus drinks only – then a citrus juicer will prove the best investment.

Size & Weight

If you’re in the market for a compact juicer, then it goes without saying you need to pay close attention to the dimensions of the appliance before buying it.

If you want to store the juicer in a cupboard between uses, make sure that it’s light enough to carry too.

If it’s something you’ll need to keep out on your countertop though, check the footprint of the juicers you shortlist carefully, and make sure your preferred choice will fit in its ideal location.

Extraction Speed

If you often find yourself in a rush in the mornings, I think you might find a masticating juicer to be a little frustrating. They’re designed to operated at a low speed.

In that situation you’ll find a centrifugal juicer more suitable for you. When shopping around, look for a centrifugal juicer that has a high RPM and a powerful motor.

As a general rule of thumb though, you’ll find that even the best compact juicer with a big enough motor will make a lot of noise. Which brings us neatly onto…

Watch The Noise

Centrifugal juicers make a lot more noise than masticating juicers. The reason for this is that a masticating appliance is a slow juicer that takes things nice and easy, gradually chewing through through your ingredients.

If you want to buy a masticating juicer and really want to keep the noise levels down, look for one with a lower RPM. That does mean you’ll have to wait longer for the juice extraction to complete though.

Whether you’re using a food processor, a blender, or a juice machine, there’s no getting away from the noise that’s always generated when you grind up ingredients.

The trick is to find the right balance, and consider when you’ll be using the juicer, and how quiet your household needs to be at that time.

Cleaning

Even if you’re only juicing occasionally, it’s really important that your juicer of choice is easy to clean.

Juicers should be easy to dissemble – and easy to assemble again after cleaning. I recommend buying one with dishwasher-safe components too.

That’s not only good for hygiene, but also means you won’t end up with today’s ingredients finding their way into tomorrow’s juice – eurgh!

Budget

Most compact juicers are relatively inexpensive appliances, but it’s worth stretching your budget a little where you can. You definitely get what you pay for in this corner of kitchen life.

Don’t get me wrong, I know not everyone has the ability to spend more money upfront on a longer-lasting kitchen appliance. A “cheap” juicer that breaks down the moment it’s out of warranty won’t look like such a bargain in the long run though.

Durability and build quality is absolutely crucial here. Stainless steel components are a good indicator of a durable appliance, and are always worth investing in.

Don’t expect every component on even the best juicers to be made of a premium material though.

If there are any plastic components that come into contact with the food, make sure the product is at least marked as BPA-free. That’ll help you avoid any contaminants finding their way into your juice.
